Performances as Creative Processes
– Using the flowchart of the creative process as a guideline, interview a performer (or group of performers) on the way they have created their performance. For a better focused exercise, use only one of the three diagrams extracted from the flowchart to formulate your questions. For instance, gather information about their makeup and costume, or focus on how they got the first idea about the kind of performance they wanted to do. Asking such questions is not a breach of privacy as long as the interview remains within the professional domain. Performers are usually willing to answer such questions as a part of their professional life.
– Observe video recordings of live concerts of any genres (classical, rock, etc.), and note the various ways musicians are dressed. Discuss the impacts of this visual aspect of the performance on the audience.
