Performances as Affective Experiences
– Two kinds of exercices can be devised for this chapter. The first kind is personal observations of our own affective reactions (either positive or negative) during and after a performance. It is possible to raise the question of why we reacted the way we do, and to analyse the possible reasons. It is not always easy to do so as it may touch upon deep unconscious layers of our psyche.
– The second kind of exercices may consist of interviewing others about their reaction to various types of performances or performers, keeping in mind that the exercices must not be construed as an invasion of privacy.
– Observe and analyse the facial expressions of violinist Nathan Meltzer and the body motions of the pianist playing Bartok’ Rhapsody #1.
