Performances as Texts: Description and interpretation of Multisensorial Ephemeral Events
– Produce a text that describes a short performance you have been able to observe several times (either live or in recorded form). The easiest way is to choose a street performer that can be readily observed. Note the variations that occurred from one performance to the other during the day. Note also the reactions of the temporary audiences that briefly gather to watch the show.
– Whenever possible, attend the same performance several times and attempt to produce a verbal copy of this performance as accurately as possible.
– Analyze the structure of this solo rope acrobatic act from a Columbian circus. Make a list of the acrobatic tricks and note their progression. Make a separate list of the social gestures of the acrobat toward the audience. Pay also attention to the role of the music in this performance.
